Halloween Candy Guide: The Do’s & Don’ts with Braces

With Halloween quickly approaching, the expert team here at Silver Smiles Orthodontics can’t wait to celebrate the spookiest day of the year! However, some Silver Smiles patients might be wondering, “What candy can I enjoy with braces this Halloween?” Have no fear, we’re here with a helpful guide on what candies are and aren’t good with braces in Atlanta.

Halloween Candy to Enjoy with Braces

Let’s start with the good news. There are a lot of treats you can have when you’re in orthodontic treatment. Aim for candy that is soft or that will melt in your mouth. Here are our favorite Halloween candies to eat with braces, as well as some other festive options:

  • Reese’s peanut butter cups
  • Pixy Stix
  • Kit Kat bars (break into small pieces)
  • Plain chocolate Hershey’s bar (without nuts)
  • Hershey’s kisses
  • Three Musketeers
  • Soft cookies (without nuts)
  • Ice cream
  • Apple Cider
  • Pudding/Jell-o
  • Cupcakes

Halloween Candy to Avoid with Braces

On to the bad news. There is some Halloween candy to avoid with braces in Snellville. While we know that can be a little bit of a bummer, it will be totally worth it when you see your fantastic new smile! Here is what to avoid:

  • Starburst
  • Skittles
  • Caramel
  • Taffy
  • Candy with nuts like Snickers, Hershey’s with nuts, Pay Day’s, etc.
  • Hard Candies like Jolly Ranchers & Lemonheads
  • Sour Patch kids
  • Toffee
  • Bubblegum
  • Airheads
  • Caramel apples & candy apples
  • Other hard, chewy or sticky candies & foods

KEEP IN MIND – Candy contains A TON OF SUGAR. So, be extra diligent about brushing after diving into your Halloween haul. If you won’t be home, be sure to pack your travel kit with your travel brush, floss picks, and mouthwash.
